About David Edward
David Edward Magilligan studied history as an undergraduate and later turned to law. He attended Loyola College beginning in 1988 and earned a B.A. in History in 1992. Years later he enrolled at the University of Miami School of Law in 2004 and received his J.D. in 2007. Those academic years set a clear path from the liberal arts to courtroom work.
After law school he joined the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office as an Assistant State Lawyer in 2007. That role placed him on the front lines of prosecution early in his career. He handled caseloads typical for a state attorney, learned courtroom procedure quickly and gained experience managing investigations, witness preparation and trial work.
In 2012 he left public service and opened his own practice. As owner of Magilligan Law he built a small firm intended to serve clients across jurisdictions where he holds licensure. He maintains admission in both Florida and Massachusetts, which shapes the scope of matters the firm accepts. Running a practice brought new responsibilities: client intake, case strategy, litigation planning and the administrative duties that come with firm ownership.
Magilligan's background combines years in a prosecutor's office with the perspective of private practice. That mix informs how he approaches case assessment and courtroom presentation. He has experience in trial settings and in preparing cases for motion practice. Colleagues describe him as methodical in case preparation and steady under pressure. He has applied his training in history and law to analyze records and build arguments that are straightforward and evidence-based.
Outside of daily casework, his trajectory shows a steady shift from public to private roles. He moved from a government litigation environment into guiding a small firm. The change gave him direct control over firm priorities and client selection. It also required balancing litigation demands with client counseling and firm management.
Today he leads Magilligan Law and represents clients in the jurisdictions where he is admitted. His current practice focuses on providing legal representation to individuals and businesses across Florida and Massachusetts.
