David Charles Burgess is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1981. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Burgess is the principal attorney at the Law Offices of David C. Burgess, a firm located in Campbell, California. He has been practicing law for over 44 years, serving clients throughout the greater San Jose and Silicon Valley areas.
Mr. Burgess earned his Juris Doctor degree from Stanford Law School in 1981. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at Hamilton College, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1978. During his time at Hamilton College, he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, recognizing his academic excellence.
Mr. Burgess concentrates his practice in the areas of business and corporate law, real estate law, and employment law. He represents individuals and businesses in matters involving the formation, maintenance, and dissolution of business entities, including corporations, limited liability companies, and partnerships. His practice encompasses all stages of business transactions, including structuring, negotiation, and drafting of contracts for complex business arrangements, as well as handling mergers and acquisitions. Additionally, he provides legal services related to real estate transactions and employment matters.
Throughout his career, Mr. Burgess has handled cases in various courts, including the Superior Court of California for Santa Clara County and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to founding his own firm, he was associated with the firm of Howell and Hallgrimson in San Jose and later became a partner in the Business Law Group for many years.
Mr. Burgess is an active member of the State Bar of California and the Business Law Section of the State Bar. He is also a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association. Additionally, he is an affiliate member of the California Association of Business Brokers (CABB) and has served on CABB's Forms Committee for many years. In 2021, he was recognized as CABB's Affiliate of the Year. His community involvement includes service with the Presbytery of San Jose, including membership on the Presbytery’s Financial Affairs Committee and Permanent Judicial Commission, as well as involvement with the San Jose Family Shelter.
