About David
David Befeler built his legal foundation in Florida classrooms and courts. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida, completed his J.D. at Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University, and pursued studies in international law at the University of Miami School of Law. Those academic stops shaped a practice rooted in state law and informed by wider legal perspectives.
He is admitted to practice in Florida and has worked in the Tampa Bay area legal community for years. In 2016 he became a shareholder at BEFELER LAW FIRM, P.A., where he handles matters for individual and business clients. His role at the firm includes client counseling and case management, and he has taken on leadership responsibilities within the office since assuming the shareholder title.
Befeler is a Florida Supreme Court-certified mediator. He uses that credential to facilitate negotiated resolutions and to guide parties through alternative dispute resolution processes. Colleagues describe his approach in mediation as pragmatic. Parties who choose to sit at the table with him can expect a practitioner familiar with the procedural rules that govern settlement efforts in Florida.
Pro bono work and volunteer service have been part of his public profile. He has served as a volunteer lawyer for the Bay Area Volunteer Lawyers Program since 2012 and joined the Young Lawyers Division Pro Bono Committee of the Hillsborough County Bar Association in 2016. Those roles have involved offering legal assistance to low-income residents and participating in organized legal aid events.
His bar and association memberships reflect a range of professional interests. He holds active membership in The Florida Bar and in the Florida Bar’s Young Lawyers Division and Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section. He is a past member of the Clearwater Bar Association and remains engaged with the Hillsborough County Bar Association. He has also maintained membership in the American Bar Association since 2009.
Peers note that he moves comfortably between client representation at trial and settlement negotiation at the bargaining table. He balances courtroom preparation with case assessment for mediation. That combination informs how he evaluates options and advises clients on next steps.
He practices in Florida at BEFELER LAW FIRM, P.A., and provides mediation services as a Florida Supreme Court-certified mediator.
