About Darwin
Darwin Overson has built a steady private practice career that stretches back to the late 1990s. He earned his J.D. from The University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 1997 after earlier studies in law and psychology in 1994. That combination of legal training and psychological study has informed the way he approaches clients and cases.
He began practicing under his own name shortly after law school. In 1998 he established the Law Office of Darwin Overson. The solo practice gave him direct courtroom experience and a steady stream of matters to handle. Two years after starting his practice he joined the Utah Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 1999 and has maintained that membership ever since.
In 2013 his role shifted toward shared ownership. That year he became a shareholder at Overson Law, PLLC and also took on a shareholder position at Bautista, Overson & Stewart. Those moves reflected a change from solo practice to collaborative firm work, allowing him to manage a broader caseload while working with other attorneys on more complex matters.
Colleagues say he brings a pragmatic approach to casework. He is comfortable in court and accustomed to the demands of trial preparation. His long-standing membership in the Utah Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers indicates sustained engagement with criminal defense issues and with the legal community in Utah.
Overson is licensed to practice in both Utah and Idaho. Over the years he has handled matters at various stages, from initial investigations through trial. He has also navigated the administrative and procedural aspects of running a private practice. Those responsibilities include client intake, case management and the business side of a law firm.
Outside of firm responsibilities, he has focused on building a local practice that responds to client needs in the intermountain region. His experience ranges across the typical tasks faced by a private-practice lawyer who regularly appears in state courts. He has sustained a practice that balances courtroom work with the demands of firm management.
As of 2026 he continues to serve as a shareholder at Overson Law, PLLC. His current practice concentrates on matters arising in the state courts of Utah and Idaho.
