About Danielle Carim

Danielle Carim Gray trained at Duke University and earned her law degree from Harvard Law School in 2003. She combined studies in economics and public policy as an undergraduate, and then moved quickly into federal court work after law school. Her early path included consecutive clerkships and stints in major litigation shops in Washington and Los Angeles.

After graduating from Harvard, Gray clerked for Judge Merrick B. Garland on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. She joined O'Melveny & Myers as an associate in 2004 and served a Supreme Court clerkship for Justice Stephen G. Breyer in 2005. In 2006 she worked as an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, gaining additional experience in complex litigation and appellate matters.

Gray moved into politics and public service in the late 2000s. She was part of the Obama for America operation as Deputy National Policy Director in 2007. That campaign work led to multiple roles in the Obama administration: Associate Counsel to the President in 2009, senior counsel roles at the U.S. Department of Justice in 2010, and a position as Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council in 2011. In 2013 she served as Assistant to the President and Cabinet Secretary, handling administrative coordination between the White House and executive agencies.

She returned to private practice in 2014 as a partner at O'Melveny & Myers LLP. In that role she worked on regulatory and government-related matters, drawing on her clerking and federal government experience. Her career has moved between high-level government positions and demanding private-sector legal work.

In 2018 Gray joined Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina as Senior Vice President, Chief Legal and Administrative Officer. In that corporate role she has overseen legal, regulatory and administrative functions for the insurer. Her portfolio has included corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and interactions with state and federal regulators.

Gray is admitted to practice in New York. Her career spans federal clerkships, senior advisory posts in the executive branch, partnership at a large law firm, and corporate legal leadership. She currently serves in a senior legal and administrative role at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, where her practice centers on legal, regulatory and governance matters for the organization.
