About Daniel K.

Daniel K. Peugh built his legal foundation at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, earning a J.D. in 1995. He entered the Texas legal community later in the decade and joined the State Bar of Texas in 1998. Early years in practice set the course for a career that would move between prosecution and defense.

His first major public position came in 1999 when he served as Chief Prosecutor at the Denton County Criminal District Lawyer s Office. The role placed him inside the courtroom on behalf of the state. It also offered a close look at how cases are prepared and tried from the other side of the table.

In 2002 he shifted back toward defense work as Chief of the Criminal Defense Division at Tackett & Peugh, LP. The move represented a change in perspective. It also expanded his courtroom responsibilities and put him in charge of handling criminal matters for the firm.

Peugh established his own practice in 2009 as lead lawyer at The Peugh Law Office. Since then he has maintained a private practice that draws on experience from both prosecution and defense. That dual background shapes how he approaches case assessment, client counsel, and trial strategy.

Professional memberships form a steady thread through Peugh’s career. He has been a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the National Criminal Defense Lawyers Association since 2002. Locally, he has belonged to the Denton County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association since 2002 as well. His engagement in bar activities also included a leadership stint with the Texas Young Lawyers Association, where he served on the Board of Directors from 2005 to 2009.

Colleagues and clients note the practical side of his practice. He has handled matters across the criminal docket in Texas courts. His background as a prosecutor informs how he evaluates evidence and negotiates with opposing counsel. His years in defense practice provide experience in trial preparation and courtroom advocacy.

Peugh has continued to practice law in Texas for more than two decades. He keeps active in professional associations and maintains a caseload that reflects his experience in criminal law. He currently focuses his practice on criminal defense in Texas.
