About Daniel Edwin Buras

Daniel Edwin Buras Jr began his legal path at Louisiana State University, where he earned a B.A. in political science in 1987. He went on to Samford University and completed his J.D. in 1996. Those years set the groundwork for a career that has moved between private practice, clerking and military service.

Early in his career he served as a law clerk to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in 1999. That federal appellate experience was followed by an associate position at Jones Walker in 2000, where he worked on matters that took him into state and federal courtrooms. He then joined Niles Bourque Fontana & Knight in 2004 and moved to Daigle Fisse & Kessenich in 2005, building practical experience across several firms.

In 2008 Buras took on a managerial role at Buras Law Office, LLC. The move put him in charge of day-to-day operations and client work at a smaller, locally based practice. Colleagues recall a steady presence in the office and a willingness to handle the administrative as well as the substantive legal tasks that keep a firm running.

Parallel to his civilian career, Buras has served as an officer in the U.S. Navy since 2003. That military service has continued alongside his practice. The dual responsibilities have shaped how he approaches deadlines and courtroom preparation. They also informed his perspective on federal procedure and discipline under pressure.

He is admitted to practice in Texas and Louisiana and is a member of the bar for the Fifth Circuit. He held membership in the Covington Bar Association from 2005 through 2011. Those memberships reflect a career spent largely in regional practice, with work that reaches into federal appellate courts when cases require it.

Buras’s professional record shows steady progression rather than flash. He has moved through the ranks of firm life into a leadership role in his own office. He combines appellate experience from his clerkship with years of trial and transactional exposure accrued at multiple firms.

He currently practices at Buras Law Office, LLC and handles litigation and appellate matters in state and federal courts.
