About Daniel E.

Daniel E. Smyth built his academic foundation on two continents. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Queens College, City University of New York, then took graduate study at Trinity College Dublin, where he completed an M.Phil. He returned to the United States for law school and received his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law.

Smyth started his legal career after law school in roles that combined courtroom exposure and transactional work. Over time he moved into private practice and rose through firm ranks. He is now a partner at Sutton & Smyth, LLP, where he shares responsibility for both client representation and the day-to-day management of firm matters. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparation and steady under pressure.

His work has required a mix of negotiation, document drafting and appearances before courts and administrative bodies. That mix has given him familiarity with procedural strategy and client counseling. He also spends time mentoring junior attorneys at the firm and overseeing case strategy in more complex matters. He maintains current memberships in professional associations and participates in continuing legal education to keep current with developments in New York law.

Smyth practices in New York and represents clients in matters that arise in the state’s courts and administrative forums. He approaches cases with attention to factual detail and an eye for practical resolution. When litigation is unavoidable he prepares for trial thoroughly. When alternatives can save clients time and cost he explores them. His courtroom work is balanced by transactional and advisory assignments that require precise drafting and careful risk assessment.

Outside the office he has taken part in panels and local bar events where he speaks on procedural issues and case management. That public engagement reflects an interest in the mechanics of legal practice rather than showmanship. He prefers clear explanations that clients can act on.

He continues to serve as a partner at Sutton & Smyth, LLP, and practices law in New York, representing individuals and businesses in state matters.
