About Dan

Dan Gjorgiev combines technical training and legal education in ways that fit the practical demands of intellectual property work. He completed dual undergraduate degrees at Loyola University Chicago in 2014, earning a B.S. in Environmental Science and a B.A. in Political Science. He stayed in Chicago for law school and received his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2017, where he also earned a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law.

After law school, Gjorgiev joined Lee Sheikh & Haan LLC as an associate in 2017. He began his professional life at a firm that handles patent- and trademark-related matters and litigation, and his early years there gave him steady exposure to the procedural and technical dimensions of intellectual property practice. Colleagues and clients often describe him as attentive to detail and comfortable working through complex patent rules and deadlines.

Gjorgiev holds registrations and admissions that shape the kinds of work he can accept. He is admitted before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the Seventh Circuit and the Federal Circuit, and he is licensed in Illinois and Texas. Those credentials allow him to file patent applications, pursue trademark registrations and take cases into appellate forums when necessary.

His academic background in environmental science adds an additional layer to his legal practice. The scientific training helps him read technical disclosures and work with inventors who come from laboratory and engineering settings. At the same time, his political science studies inform an interest in the policy and statutory dimensions of intellectual property law.

He maintains professional ties in the Chicago legal community. Gjorgiev is a current member of the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago and the State Bar of Illinois. Those memberships provide regular opportunities for continuing education and professional networking.

Colleagues say Gjorgiev is methodical when drafting patent claims and careful when preparing responses to office actions. He balances the procedural demands of prosecution with the strategic decisions that come up in appeals and contested matters. His experience since 2017 has been concentrated in firm practice rather than academia or government service.

He continues to work at Lee Sheikh & Haan LLC, where he handles patent filings, trademark matters and related appellate work. He currently focuses his practice on intellectual property prosecution and appeals.
