Mr. Marmalefsky earned his Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School, where he graduated in 1980. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Berkeley, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976. During his time at Yale, he was involved in various legal activities, including serving on the law review and participating in moot court competitions.
Mr. Marmalefsky concentrates his practice in the areas of white-collar criminal defense, securities litigation, class action defense, and appellate law. He represents individuals and corporations in matters involving alleged securities fraud, insider trading, and other financial crimes. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts. He has also handled appeals before various appellate courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. Marmalefsky has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Los Angeles, the United States District Court for the Central District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster in 1995, he worked as a partner at Hufstedler, Miller, Carlson & Beardsley, where he began his legal career in 1982.
Mr. Marmalefsky is an active member of the California State Bar Association. He has been recognized by his peers and was selected to Super Lawyers for 2006 through 2022. He is also listed in Best Lawyers in America since 2013. Mr. Marmalefsky is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to serve a diverse clientele effectively.
