Dale Alan Ortmann is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1980. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Ortmann is a senior shareholder and co-founder of Hunt Ortmann Palffy Nieves Darling & Mah, Inc., a law firm specializing in construction and real estate law, located in Pasadena, California. He has been practicing law for over 45 years, serving clients throughout California, particularly in the Los Angeles and Pasadena areas.

Mr. Ortmann earned his Juris Doctor degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, graduating in 1980. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976, graduating magna cum laude. During his time at Loyola Law School, he developed a strong foundation in construction and real estate law, which has been the focus of his legal career.

Mr. Ortmann concentrates his practice in the areas of construction law, real estate law, and business law. He represents clients in matters involving construction contracts, construction defects, construction liens, construction litigation, commercial real estate, condominiums, easements, eminent domain, homeowners associations, land use and zoning, mortgages, neighbor disputes, residential real estate, and water law. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts.

Throughout his career, Mr. Ortmann has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Los Angeles, the United States District Court for the Central District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to founding his own firm, he worked as an associate at a mid-size litigation firm in Century City for five years. His extensive experience includes representing public agencies, developers, contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, design professionals, and homeowners associations in complex construction and real estate disputes.

Mr. Ortmann is an active member of the American Bar Association, the Building Industry Credit Association, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He has been recognized for his contributions to the field, including being named Best Lawyer’s Construction Litigation Attorney of the Year in 2015 and selected as a Super Lawyer from 2006 to 2024. He is also a frequent speaker before numerous construction industry organizations, focusing on current trends and recent developments in construction law. Mr. Ortmann is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to serve the diverse communities of California effectively.
