About D. Patrick
D. Patrick McCullough earned his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in 1971 after completing a B.S. in Psychology and Sociology at Bemidji State University in 1967. Those early years set a pattern: study followed by steady involvement in the institutions that shape family law practice in Minnesota.
Over a long career in the state, McCullough built a reputation for steady participation in professional organizations and court-related education. He has served on the Judicial College Family Law Curriculum as faculty, sharing courtroom and procedural perspectives with judges and practitioners. He has also sat on the Ramsey County Bar Association Ethics Committee and later chaired its Family Law Section.
His organizational roles extend beyond the local bar. McCullough has been a member of the American Bar Association, the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Washington County Bar Association and the Minnesota Association of Mediators. He belongs to the Minnesota Association for Justice and the American Association for Justice. Nationally, he is a diplomat of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, a designation that indicates peer recognition in the field of family law trials.
McCullough has taken on leadership positions over the years. He served as president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in 1990 and chaired the Family Law Section of the Ramsey County Bar Association in 1989. He has served on the board of directors for Ramsey County Placement. Earlier, in 1988, he was a member of the Ramsey County Bar Association Ethics Committee. Those roles reflect sustained engagement in the ethical and organizational questions that affect family law practice.
Alternative dispute resolution and court-connected roles are part of his profile. He is a Rule 114 Qualified Mediator under Minnesota’s Alternative Dispute Resolution rules and has acted as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association. That work runs alongside classroom instruction for judicial education and occasional speaking engagements tied to family law procedure.
Today McCullough practices at McCullough & Associates P.A. in Minnesota. His practice continues to involve family law matters handled through both litigation and dispute resolution processes. He remains active in bar groups and educational programs that touch on family court practice and mediation.
