About Cynthia A.
Cynthia A. Sherwood earned her law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School in 2000 after completing a bachelor’s degree in political science at Delta State University in 1997. She entered law school after a traditional liberal arts undergraduate course of study and left Vanderbilt with a J.D. at the turn of the century. Those formative years set the stage for a litigation career centered in Tennessee.
Her legal career began at Neal & Harwell, PLC in 2000. She worked there as a lawyer, gaining early courtroom exposure and practical experience at a firm known for commercial and litigation practices. A decade later she took on a leadership role at her own firm. Since 2010 she has served as managing member of Sherwood Boutique Litigation, PLC, overseeing a small litigation practice and guiding case strategy while handling her own matters.
Sherwood is admitted to practice in Tennessee and in the federal courts that serve the state. She is authorized to appear in the U.S. District Courts for the Middle and Western Districts of Tennessee and has taken matters before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Those admissions reflect a practice that spans both state and federal forums.
Her professional associations trace a steady involvement in bar and specialty groups. She holds memberships in the American Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association and the Nashville Bar Association. She is also a member of the Tennessee Lawyers Association for Women and the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. These affiliations suggest a lawyer who stays connected to local bar activities and to organizations focused on trial advocacy and the professional development of women lawyers.
Colleagues describe Sherwood as a courtroom lawyer who builds cases for trial and argues procedural and appellate matters when required. Her background ties early firm experience to the responsibilities of running a boutique practice. She balances casework, client counseling and firm management. That mix informs how she approaches litigation strategy and client communication.
She continues to lead Sherwood Boutique Litigation, PLC out of Nashville, handling cases in state courts and in the federal districts that cover Tennessee. She concentrates her practice on litigation in Tennessee and in the federal courts where she appears regularly.
