About Curtis Bennett
Curtis Bennett Ross combined an accounting undergraduate degree with a law degree at the University of Illinois, giving him a technical grounding that would shape his career. He earned a B.S. in Accountancy in 1977 and continued at the same campus to receive his J.D. in 1980. Those years at Urbana-Champaign set the stage for work that moved between numbers and the law.
His first professional position after law school was on the tax staff at Arthur Andersen and Co. in 1980. That role put him inside large-firm tax practice and exposed him to corporate tax work and compliance matters. He left public accounting for private practice a few years later and spent time as an associate at Jerome H. Torshen, Ltd. in 1983, where he handled client matters across business and tax issues.
In 1984 he opened his own firm. He founded The Law Offices of Curtis Bennett Ross, LLC and has served as its principal since that time. The move to start his own practice came quickly after his early roles, and it reflected an interest in advising businesses and individuals on legal matters that intersect with accounting and tax.
Throughout his career his background in accountancy has informed the types of matters he accepts. He has handled tax-related issues, advised business clients on transactions and compliance, and worked on disputes that involve financial questions. His experience on a major accounting firm's tax staff early on gave him familiarity with tax rules and reporting that many clients find useful when legal issues involve numbers.
Ross is licensed to practice law in Illinois. He has maintained his practice in the state and represents clients there on matters that require both legal judgment and an understanding of accounting principles. Over the years he has combined litigation, advisory work and transactional support for a range of local clients.
He continues to operate The Law Offices of Curtis Bennett Ross, LLC in Illinois and concentrates his practice on tax matters and business-related legal issues.
