About Curt Mitchell
Curt Mitchell Masker built a path to the law that began in Michigan and passed through a research degree before he ever took the bar. He earned a B.A. in political science from Michigan State University in 2008, followed by an MLIS from Wayne State University in 2011. He then attended Vanderbilt University Law School, finishing his J.D. in 2017 and earning the Law and Business Certificate while there.
Masker tested the bounds of large-firm practice early. In 2016 he worked as a summer associate at Dinsmore & Shohl LLP, where he gained exposure to complex litigation and transactional matters. The experience gave him a sense of how litigation teams are built and how cases move from intake to trial preparation.
After law school he moved into plaintiff-side employment work. In 2019 he joined a boutique plaintiffs firm as an employment lawyer. That role placed him in client-facing litigation from the start, handling claims that often involved workplace disputes and statutory employment protections. In 2020 he began practicing at Rickard Masker, PLC as an employment lawyer, where he continued to represent employees in workplace matters.
Masker is licensed to practice in Ohio and Tennessee. He is active in local and national professional groups. He holds memberships in the Nashville Bar Association and the Tennessee Bar Association, both since 2020. He joined the National Employment Lawyers Association in 2020 and has been a member of the Tennessee Employment Lawyers Association since 2019. Those affiliations keep him engaged with developments in employment statutes and case law.
His academic background — combining political science, information science, and law — shapes how he approaches cases. The MLIS contributes to detailed legal research and document management, and the Law and Business Certificate indicates training in the intersection of legal strategy and business considerations. He has handled a range of employment matters, including claims related to discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour issues, and wrongful termination. His career has been concentrated on representing employees rather than employers.
Today he practices at Rickard Masker, PLC, where his work continues to center on employment law matters for individuals in Tennessee and Ohio. He maintains an active role in bar and professional associations related to employment law, and his current practice focuses on representing workers in workplace disputes.
