He went on to earn his J.D. from the College of William and Mary in 1995. Those years framed an early interest in litigation and public service that would shape his career.
After law school, Nolan served as a law clerk to Judge Terrence W. Boyle of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina in 1995. He joined Maupin Taylor & Ellis, P.A. as an associate in 1996 and moved to Dinse, Knapp & McAndrew, P.C. the following year. In 1999 he clerked for Judge Fred I. In 2015 Nolan entered private practice as a partner at Sheehey, Furlong & Behm. His experience in both state and federal prosecution informs his work in private practice. He is admitted in Vermont and has appellate admission in the Second Circuit, reflecting the mix of trial and appellate work in his background.
