About Craig M.
Craig M. Hoehns built his path to the law on an unlikely foundation: a chemistry degree. He earned a B.S. in chemistry from Truman State University in 2004 and went on to earn his J.D. from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 2007. Those years of study gave him a methodical approach to evidence and a steady temperament at the courthouse.
He began practicing law in Oklahoma immediately after law school. In 2007 he joined the Oklahoma County Public Defender's Office as an assistant public defender. That early work put him in court regularly and offered a steady stream of jury trials and hearings. He moved into other defense roles in 2010, serving both as defense counsel for the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System and as an attorney at Harris & DeLeon, PLLC.
In 2011 he opened Hoehns Law Office, PLLC. Since then he has maintained a private practice while appearing in state and federal courts. His admissions include the Oklahoma state bar, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern and Western Districts of Oklahoma. The mix of public defender work and private practice has shaped how he manages cases and prepares for trial.
His professional activity extends beyond client work. He has been a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association since 2007 and holds memberships in the American Bar Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He joined the Oklahoma Criminal Defense Lawyers Association in 2011. From 2011 he has served on the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals Committee for Uniform Jury Instructions. He served on the board of the Oklahoma County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association from 2011 to 2014 and was a barrister in the Turner American Inn of Court from 2014 to 2018. He also worked as an associate editor for the Oklahoma Bar Journal in 2010–2011.
Those experiences have concentrated his practice on contested matters that require courtroom work. He has represented clients at various stages of criminal proceedings in both state and federal systems. The combination of trial experience, appellate admissions and committee service informs how he evaluates cases and prepares jury instructions. He now practices through Hoehns Law Office, PLLC, where his current practice focuses on criminal defense.
