About Craig Constantine

Craig Constantine DeThomasis is a Circuit Court Judge for the Eighth Judicial Circuit in Gainesville, Florida. He was appointed to this position in August 2019 and continues to serve in that capacity. Before his appointment to the bench, Judge DeThomasis was a partner at DeThomasis & Buchanan, P.A., a law firm in Gainesville.

From 1983 through 2019, he represented individuals accused of crimes, handling cases ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies. In addition to his legal practice, Judge DeThomasis served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Florida Levin College of Law from 1990 through 2019. He taught Trial Practice, sharing his experience with law students.

Judge DeThomasis earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Finance from the University of Florida in 1980. He then obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida College of Law in 1983. Throughout his career, Judge DeThomasis has been active in various professional organizations.

He has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1983 and has served in leadership roles within the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, including President of the Eighth Judicial Circuit Chapter in 1996. In 2006, Judge DeThomasis was recognized with the Meritorious Public Service Award by The Florida Bar. He has also been honored with the AV Preeminent rating by Martindale-Hubbell, reflecting his high ethical standards and professional excellence.
