About Cortney
Cortney Alexander blends a technical undergraduate education with a law degree and nearly two decades in private practice. She earned a B.S. from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1999 and completed her J.D. at Louisiana State University in 2002. The combination of those degrees shaped the early path of a lawyer who moved into firm practice soon after graduation.
Her legal career began in the Midwest and South. In 2003 she joined Frost Brown Todd as an associate. Two years later she moved to Finnegan Henderson Farabow Garrett & Dunner, where she worked as an associate starting in 2005. At Finnegan she spent the better part of a decade and became a partner in 2011. Those years marked a steady rise through firm ranks and offered prolonged experience in firm-based practice environments.
In 2017 Alexander changed firms again, taking a partner role at Kent & Risley LLC. The move brought her into a different office setting and into new responsibilities. Her career record shows long tenures at each stop and movement into leadership roles within private firms rather than in-house or public positions.
She is admitted to practice in Louisiana, Kentucky and Georgia. Her bar memberships include the Kentucky State Bar, where she holds current membership, and the State Bar of Georgia, where records show membership beginning in 2010 and continuing to the present. Those admissions allow her to represent clients across several jurisdictions in the Southeast and the lower Mississippi Valley.
Alexander’s education at Rose-Hulman and LSU frames much of how she is described by colleagues: methodical and detail-oriented. Her undergraduate training in a technical program complements a legal education from a state law school, a combination that many clients find useful when matters involve technical or regulatory questions. Colleagues note a steady career progression and a preference for long-term firm roles.
She has spent the last years practicing from the Kent & Risley LLC platform and handling matters that span her admitted jurisdictions. She currently focuses her practice at Kent & Risley LLC, representing clients across Louisiana, Kentucky and Georgia.
