About Cordt C.

Cordt C. Akers followed a steady academic path into courtroom work. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in marketing and jazz music at Tulane University, completed his J.D. at South Texas College of Law, and later graduated from Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers College in 2015. The sequence of schools shows an interest in both performance and persuasion, an uncommon pairing that informed his approach to trial advocacy.

Akers began his legal career in public service. After law school he joined the Harris County District Lawyer's Office in 2012 as an assistant district lawyer. That early courtroom exposure involved managing criminal matters and trying cases under the supervision of more experienced prosecutors. The role gave him an immediate, practical education in evidence, witness preparation, and courtroom procedure.

He moved into academia briefly the next year, taking an adjunct position in trial advocacy at South Texas College of Law in 2013. In that post he taught law students the mechanics of trial practice. He returned to private practice the following year as an associate at Cogdell Law Office, PLLC. Those transitions—from prosecutor to teacher to private attorney—helped him see cases from several angles.

Akers’s training at the Trial Lawyers College in 2015 stands out in his record. The program emphasized trial techniques and one-on-one coaching. He has described that experience as reinforcing the hands-on skills he developed in court and in the classroom. Since joining Cogdell Law Office, he has continued to build a career centered on litigation.

Colleagues say Akers brings a methodical approach to trial preparation. He spends time developing witness testimony, organizing exhibits, and anticipating opposing strategies. His background in performance—studying jazz—appears in how he thinks about pacing, tone, and presence in the courtroom. As an educator he learned to explain complex legal points clearly, a skill that carries over to jury work and client communication.

He practices in Texas and has handled matters at the trial level and in pretrial proceedings. He currently practices at Cogdell Law Office, PLLC. His practice concentrates on trial-level litigation.
