About Constancia

Constancia Carter built a legal foundation on two unlikely allies: psychology and law. She earned a B.A. in psychology from Spelman College before taking her J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law. That combination informs how she reads a witness, prepares a client, and frames arguments in court.

Her career took a pivotal turn in 2011 when she became a partner at The Wilson Davis Firm LLC. She works in criminal defense and indigent representation, roles reflected in the professional organizations she has joined and the committees she chairs. Her practice blends courtroom work with community-based advocacy.

Carter has been active in bar and professional groups for more than a decade. She has served as Co-Chair of the Mental Health Committee for the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 2013. She joined the State Bar of Georgia Veterans Section in 2013 and the Indigent Defense Section in 2014. Those memberships underline an ongoing interest in how mental health and military service intersect with criminal law.

Her leadership extends into local and statewide organizations. Since 2014 she has co-chaired the Political Action Committee for the Georgia Association of Black Women Lawyers. Beginning in 2015 she took a leadership role in the Gwinnett County Bar Association’s Criminal Section as its President-Elect. Those roles show regular involvement in policy discussions and in shaping the practices of fellow lawyers.

Clients and colleagues describe Carter as methodical and direct. She prepares cases with an eye toward both immediate legal options and the longer-term consequences her clients will face. The psychology background surfaces in client interviews and mitigation work. The law degree and years at a firm that handles criminal matters give her the technical grounding to manage trials, negotiations, and post-conviction issues.

Outside the courtroom, Carter’s committee work puts her at the junction of legal practice and public policy. Her roles on mental health and veterans committees involve outreach, education, and efforts to adjust courtroom responses to vulnerable populations. Her PAC work focuses on engagement and supporting initiatives that affect access to justice.

She remains a partner at The Wilson Davis Firm LLC. Her current practice concentrates on criminal defense, indigent representation, mental health-related cases, and veterans-related issues.
