About Colin William
Colin William Walsh studied theatre as an undergraduate before turning to law. He earned a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006 and completed his J.D. at The University of Texas School of Law in 2011. That combination of a humanities background and legal training shaped an approach that pays attention to narrative and detail.
After law school, Walsh sought admission to practice in multiple jurisdictions. He is admitted in Texas and the District of Columbia, and he holds admission to several federal forums, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Fifth Circuit. His credentials also extend to several district courts: the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, the Western District of Texas and the Eastern District of Texas. Those admissions allow him to handle matters that move between trial courts and appellate review.
His work has involved federal litigation and appellate matters. That mix requires comfort with briefing and oral argument as well as the procedural mechanics of federal practice. He has developed experience across stages of litigation, from motions practice and discovery to appeals. Colleagues describe him as deliberate in preparing records and precise in framing issues for judges. His theatre background sometimes shows in the attention paid to the pacing and structure of written and oral advocacy.
Walsh’s practice crosses both trial and appellate dockets. He handles matters in state and federal courts and practices before appellate panels when cases move beyond the district level. The range of places where he is admitted reflects a practice that is not confined to a single courtroom. In federal courts he has taken on procedural and substantive tasks that are common in multi-jurisdictional litigation. In the District of Columbia he has addressed matters that intersect with federal regulatory and administrative questions.
Outside the courtroom, he has engaged in the kind of case preparation that supports effective hearings and appeals. He pays attention to record development and to the strategic choices that shape litigation trajectories. Walsh remains based in the jurisdictions where he is licensed and continues to accept matters that require federal trial or appellate advocacy. He currently focuses on litigation and appellate work in federal and state courts.
