About Chris

Chris Koster is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of Missouri. He was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1991. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Koster served as the 41st Attorney General of Missouri from January 12, 2009, to January 9, 2017. He is currently serving as Executive Vice President, Secretary, and General Counsel at Centene Corporation, a position he has held since February 2017.

Mr. Koster earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1991. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of Missouri–Columbia, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987. He furthered his education by obtaining a Master of Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis in 2002.

Mr. Koster's practice areas have included criminal law, civil litigation, and public policy. As Attorney General, he focused on prosecuting corporate and mortgage fraud, cracking down on fraudulent Medicaid providers, and protecting workers' rights. He also worked to enforce Missouri's environmental laws and supported law enforcement in combating the spread of illegal methamphetamines. His legal work encompassed all stages of litigation, including investigations, trials, and appeals.

Throughout his career, Mr. Koster has handled cases in various courts, including the Missouri Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has argued and won cases before the Missouri Supreme Court and has developed extensive trial experience, with 25 jury trial victories, including 10 murder trial victories. Prior to his tenure as Attorney General, he served as an Assistant Attorney General from 1991 to 1993 and as Prosecuting Attorney for Cass County, Missouri, from 1994 to 2004.

Mr. Koster is an active member of the Missouri Bar Association and has been involved in community organizations such as the Belton-Raymore Rotary Club and the Belton Chamber of Commerce. He has served as a board member of the Hope Haven Women's Shelter. In 2002, Ingram's Magazine named him "one of Kansas City's most influential citizens under 40 years old." In 2004, the Kansas City Business Journal recognized him as one of Kansas City's best attorneys. He is fluent in English and has been involved in various community service initiatives throughout his career.
