About Chiara Urbani

Chiara Urbani LaPlume is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and before the Federal Circuit. She has built a practice that moves between state-level matters and federal proceedings. The career has a steady mix of client work and service inside professional organizations.

Her public roles go back more than a decade. She has served on the steering committee of the Business Lawyer s Network since 2010. She has been co-chair of the Solo and Small Firm Committee of the Women s Bar Association of Massachusetts since 2006. In both positions she has helped shape programs, organize panels, and create forums where lawyers exchange practical strategies and peer support.

On the client side, her work covers business and litigation matters. She counsels small business owners, solo practitioners and other clients on transactional questions and dispute strategy. She prepares agreements, assists with business formation choices and advises on risk management. When disputes emerge she handles pretrial motion practice and coordinates with local counsel in state and federal venues.

Her experience before the Federal Circuit complements the Massachusetts practice. Admission there enables her to address matters that escalate to federal appellate review. That layer of practice informs the way she frames issues at the trial level and how she prepares records that may later be reviewed by appellate tribunals.

Colleagues and clients note that she invests time in continuing legal education programs. She speaks at panels and workshops organized by the associations she serves. The emphasis is practical: helping lawyers run small practices more efficiently and helping business clients understand their options.

Her approach to professional association work is hands-on. Steering committee duties involve planning and outreach. As co-chair of the Solo and Small Firm Committee she works on programming designed for solo practitioners and small firms, arranging mentorship opportunities and practice management sessions.

Outside of organized bar activity she maintains an active caseload in Massachusetts. She balances transactional drafting and counseling with litigation tasks. Her practice currently centers on business law, counseling for small firms and litigation in state and federal courts.
