About Cheryl

Cheryl Lyons-Schmidt built a legal career from the ground up. She earned a B.S. in Legal Studies and Business Law from the University of Maryland University College in 2003 and a J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2005. Those years set the framework for steady movement through courtrooms, law offices and committee rooms.

Her early work was practical and hands-on. She began as a paralegal at Mason, Ketterman & Cawood, PC in 2001 and served as a legal assistant for Thomas F. Ellis, III in 2003. After law school she served as a law clerk for John S. Smith and Associates in 2006. She also took internships that exposed her to practice-level rules and policy — one with the Mental Health, Alcoholism and Addiction Committee in 2006 and another with the Maryland Rules Committee in 2007.

Those roles translated into firm leadership. In 2010 she was vice president of Smith and Lyons-Schmidt, PC. The following year she became president of Lyons-Schmidt Law Office, PC. Across those positions she managed files, supervised staff and handled client matters. Her pathway reflects steady responsibility rather than sudden leaps.

Lyons-Schmidt’s associations track her ties to the Maryland bar community. She has been a member of the Maryland Bar Association and the Anne Arundel County Bar Association since 2008. She joined the Maryland Association for Justice in 2009 and continues that membership. Those affiliations keep her connected to local practice developments and provide recurring opportunities to engage with peers.

Colleagues and clients know her for practical courtroom preparation and an emphasis on procedural detail. The combination of paralegal work, clerkship experience and committee internships gave her a working familiarity with litigation support, court rules and matters that touch on mental health and substance use issues in legal settings. She has moved from supporting roles into firm leadership while maintaining attention to case management and client communication.

She continues to practice in Maryland through Lyons-Schmidt Law Office, PC. Her current practice concentrates on serving individuals and businesses in Maryland through Lyons-Schmidt Law Office, PC.
