About Cheryl
Cheryl David built a foundation in liberal arts and law before she opened her own practice. She earned a B.A. in political science and psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1980. She completed her J.D. at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1984. In 1995 she attended Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyers College for litigation training.
Her move into estate planning became formal in the early 1990s. In 1992 she was recognized as an Estate Planning Law Specialist and founded the Law Offices of Cheryl David that same year. That decision set the course of her professional life, establishing a practice that combines traditional estate work with attention to the needs of older clients.
Professional credentials have been an ongoing part of her career. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Estate Planning Lawyers and is certified by the Estate Law Specialist Board, Inc. Her peers elected her to the American Academy of Estate Planning Lawyers’ Board of Governors in 2000, a role that placed her in the middle of conversations about standards in the field.
Organization work has also been a throughline for David. She has held membership in the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys since 2000 and has been involved with the American Bar Association since 2010. Locally she has maintained ties to the North Carolina Bar Association and the Greensboro Bar Association since 1989. She has served in leadership at the BJH Foundation, beginning as vice president in 2005 and serving as president in 2013.
David is licensed to practice in Maryland and North Carolina and structures her practice around estate planning and elder law issues. Her training in litigation, bolstered by the Trial Lawyers College experience, complements the planning and probate work that comes through her office. She handles documents, trusts, powers of attorney and related probate matters, and advises families navigating incapacity and long-term care concerns.
Colleagues note that her path blends courtroom-minded preparation with transactional work. She brought litigation training into a practice that often emphasizes prevention: clear documents, contingency planning and practical steps to minimize disputes. Her role in professional organizations has kept her connected to developments in elder law and estate practice nationwide.
She practices from the Law Offices of Cheryl David, where she continues to handle estate planning, elder law and related matters.
