About Charles William
Charles William Michaels began his academic path at Brandeis University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1975. He continued his studies at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 1978. Those years set the groundwork for a practice that would span trial and appellate work across state and federal forums.
He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the D.C. Circuit, and in Maryland. That range of admissions reflects a career comfortable in both trial courts and higher tribunals. It also signals an ability to take cases beyond a single courthouse and through multiple levels of appeal when circumstances require.
Michaels opened his own practice in 1990 and has served as owner of the Law Offices of C. William Michaels since then. Running a solo firm shaped the way he manages cases. He handles client intake, litigation strategy and courtroom appearances personally. Colleagues and clients know his office as a steady presence in the local legal community.
Over the years he has kept active in bar associations across Maryland. He holds membership in the Maryland State Bar Association and has been part of the Baltimore County Bar Association since 1995. He joined the Baltimore City Bar Association in 2010 and the Howard County Bar Association in 2022. He also has been a member of the Maryland Association for Justice since 2001 and participates on its Amicus Committee. Those affiliations provide regular contact with peers and keep him engaged in developments affecting practice and procedure.
Practically, his work touches both trial-level disputes and appellate filings. Being admitted at the circuit level and to the nation’s highest court allows him to pursue review where appropriate. He prepares briefs, files appeals and represents clients in court hearings when a matter reaches an appellate panel.
Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and methodical in preparation. His long tenure running a small firm means he blends courtroom experience with the administrative side of practice. He maintains a solo practice structure while participating in several county and statewide bar organizations.
As owner of the Law Offices of C. William Michaels, he continues to represent clients in Maryland and in federal appellate courts. His current practice focuses on litigation and appellate matters.
