About Charles M.
Charles M. Rittgers took a circuitous route into law. He earned a B.A. in history from Dartmouth College in 2006. He then enrolled at the University of Cincinnati College of Law and received his J.D. in 2010.
After college Rittgers spent time in finance. He worked as an investment banker at Bank of America in 2006. Two years later he joined Rittgers & Rittgers as a partner. In 2023 he became a partner at Rittgers Rittgers & Nakajima.
Rittgers is admitted to practice in Ohio and in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. He also holds training and certification in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing under NHTSA standards. That technical credential informs how he approaches cases that involve impaired driving and related traffic matters.
His professional memberships underscore a practice rooted in litigation and criminal defense. He has been a member of the Warren County Bar Associations since 2010 and belongs to the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, where he serves on a board. He is also a member of the Ohio Association of Justice and the Ohio State Bar. At his alma mater he served on the University of Cincinnati College of Law Law Review during 2008–2009 and now sits on a Law Review Alumni Advisor Board.
Colleagues and clients see him in court. He handles contested hearings and trials at both state and federal levels. His training in field sobriety testing often places him on cases that turn on police procedure and forensic evidence. He combines courtroom experience with technical knowledge of traffic enforcement and related investigative practices.
Rittgers’s background in finance gives him a different perspective on certain civil and white-collar matters, although his public record and professional associations point most often to criminal defense work. He splits his time between courtroom appearances and client counseling, preparing cases for trial and advising on procedural and evidentiary issues.
He currently practices as a partner at Rittgers Rittgers & Nakajima, concentrating on criminal defense and DUI-related matters.
