About Cathy C

Cathy C Church trained at Antioch School of Law and took her law degree in 1983. She entered the profession at a time of change, as many public interest and consumer-law movements were reshaping legal education and practice. The year of her graduation set the stage for a long career that bridges courtroom work and firm practice across state lines.

Her professional credentials include licenses to practice in both Michigan and Maryland. Those dual jurisdictions suggest a practice that crosses regional boundaries and that requires familiarity with differing state procedures, appellate rules and local court cultures. Over the years she has worked in positions that range from associate-level responsibilities to senior firm leadership. She is a partner in private practice, a role that typically combines client work, file supervision and business oversight.

Early in her career she honed fundamental skills in legal research, drafting and client counseling. She learned to translate statutes and court opinions into practical advice for people and organizations. That basic work underpins the longer arc of her practice. Peers and colleagues often describe attorneys who started in the early 1980s as having developed an adaptable toolkit: steady written advocacy, careful oral presentation and an attention to procedural detail. Those traits are evident in Church’s work history and court appearances over the decades.

Her practice reflects sustained engagement with matters that arise in state courts and administrative agencies. Working across two states requires attention to licensing rules, courtroom expectations and local practice norms. She has the kind of practical courtroom experience that comes from years of handling contested matters and advising clients on next steps when disputes escalate.

Outside of active litigation, she has managed teams and supervised junior lawyers. The partner role often involves mentoring and delegating while retaining responsibility for critical strategic decisions in a case. That balance between hands-on advocacy and supervisory duties has been a throughline in her career.

In recent years she has continued to represent clients and guide matters in both Michigan and Maryland. Her work remains grounded in everyday legal problem solving and the procedural competence needed to press or defend claims in court. She currently practices as a partner, handling matters in Michigan and Maryland.
