About Cathleen M
Cathleen M Curl began her legal path in California, earning a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University in 1974 and a J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1978. Those formative years set the stage for a long career in state and federal practice. Her education combined coastal roots with a Bay Area law school that has long fed the region’s bench and bar.
After law school she took the steps required to practice in California, and later gained admission to the Ninth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. She has maintained an active courtroom presence over the years, appearing in trial settings and handling filings in federal and state appellate courts. Her admissions allow her to pursue matters beyond the trial level when cases require it.
Courtroom work is only one part of Curl’s résumé. She served as a Judge Pro Tem for the San Mateo County Superior Court, filling in on the bench for a range of calendar and trial duties. That temporary judgeship gave her experience on the bench and a perspective that informs how she handles case preparation and courtroom management as counsel.
Outside the courthouse she has long engaged with the local building community. She is a former president and now a board member of the Peninsula Builders Exchange. That role connects her to contractors, subcontractors and trade professionals and has shaped much of her work advising and representing clients in disputes tied to construction and development activity on the Peninsula.
She is also active in professional organizations. She holds membership in the San Mateo County Trial Lawyers Association and in California Women Lawyers. Those affiliations reflect ongoing ties to the trial bar and to networks that address issues of practice, policy and professional standards in the state.
Today she operates under the Law Office of Cathleen M. Curl. Her practice handles civil matters in the state and federal courts where she is admitted, and she continues to work with clients from the local building and development communities. She maintains an active role on the Peninsula Builders Exchange board while carrying an active caseload at her firm.
She currently concentrates her practice at the Law Office of Cathleen M. Curl, handling matters in state and federal courts and serving clients connected to the local building community.
