About Catherine D.
Catherine D. Meehan built a path to law that passed through science and scholarship. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in 2005, a Bachelor of Science from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2007, and a J.D. from the Charleston School of Law in 2013. Those years left her comfortable with complex factual records and legal writing alike.
Her early legal work began before graduation. In 2011 she served as a law clerk at Williams & Connolly, LLP and worked as a legal research, analysis, and writing teaching fellow at Charleston School of Law. She took editorial responsibility in 2012 as Student Works Editor for the Charleston Law Review. That same year she spent time as a summer associate at The Richter Firm and completed judicial observation with The Honorable R. Markley Dennis, Jr. The combination of clerkship, teaching and editorial work shaped the practical skills she would use in private practice.
After receiving her law degree she joined The Steinberg Law Office as an associate in 2013. That year also marked her formal entry into the South Carolina legal community through membership in the South Carolina Bar Association and local bar groups. Over the next decade she maintained an active presence in county and regional bar associations, including the Charleston County Bar, Berkeley County Bar, and Charleston Lawyers Club. In 2022 she was named a partner at The Steinberg Law Office.
Meehan’s professional associations include participation in the South Carolina Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division and a term on the Torts & Insurance Practice Section Council from 2021 to 2023. She is also involved with the MUSC School of Nursing Alumni Association and the Junior League of Charleston. Those connections reflect a mix of legal practice interests and community engagement.
Her background combines courtroom observation, clerking, and hands-on practice. The academic work in legal research and writing and the student-editing role on the law review speak to a continuing emphasis on written advocacy. Service on a torts and insurance council indicates experience with insurance-related and civil tort matters. Her earlier science and nursing-related education gives additional familiarity with medical records and technical testimony when cases require them.
Meehan practices out of The Steinberg Law Office’s offices, including locations in Goose Creek and Summerville. She remains active in local bar groups and law practice organizations, and continues to handle matters at The Steinberg Law Office where her practice centers on civil litigation and insurance-related disputes.
