About Carter B. Harrison

Carter B. Harrison IV studied two very different subjects before he went to law school. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Mathematics from Florida State University in 2010. Three years later he received his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame, where he completed his formal legal training and prepared for courtroom work and federal practice.

His first job after law school put him inside the criminal justice system. In 2013 he worked as a trial lawyer at the Nashville Metropolitan Public Defender's Office. He handled courtroom matters early in his career and learned how to manage cases under pressure. That hands-on trial experience lasted a short but formative period before he moved to the federal bench.

In 2014 he served as a judicial clerk to the Hon. James O. Browning of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico. The clerkship gave him close exposure to federal procedure, opinion drafting and the deliberations that shape rulings. He then transitioned into private practice the following year.

In 2015 he joined Peifer, Hanson & Mullins, P.A. as a lawyer. There he worked on matters that drew on both his courtroom background and his technical undergraduate training. Four years later he became a partner at Harrison & Hart, LLC, taking on greater responsibility for case strategy and client counseling.

He is admitted to practice in Tennessee and New Mexico, and before the U.S. District Court for the 10th Circuit. He is also registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, known as the Patent Bar, which reflects his science and mathematics undergraduate training. His admissions include the U.S. Supreme Court, allowing him to handle matters that reach the highest level of the federal system.

Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in the courtroom and careful in technical matters. He draws on trial experience, a federal clerkship and patent registration to handle a mix of litigation and intellectual property issues. That combination gives him the tools to move between bench and agency proceedings without losing sight of procedural detail.

He currently practices at Harrison & Hart, LLC, where his work centers on litigation and patent-related matters.
