About Carrie
Carrie Ellison built a legal career that moves between public service and solo practice. She earned a B.A. in Sociology from Baylor University in 1996 and later took up law at Washburn University School of Law, receiving her J.D. in 2006. Those academic steps bookend an early period in criminal justice work and set the stage for varied positions in courts and government offices.
Early in her professional life Ellison worked in corrections. In 2002 she served as a corrections officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and was a senior corrections officer at the Travis County Sheriff’s Office the same year. Those front-line roles preceded her decision to attend law school and influenced the next phase of her legal training. While in law school and soon after, she held several court and government positions. In 2007 she worked as a law clerk for the Kansas Board of Cosmetology and took a legal intern post with the Missouri State Public Defender. The following year she was a judicial extern in the United States Bankruptcy Court.
Ellison entered private practice in 2009, opening a solo practice. She later served as an assistant county lawyer at the Karnes County Lawyer’s Office in 2015. She returned to solo practice again in 2017 and has continued to operate under her own name. Her membership in the Federal Bar Association dates to 2010 and remains current. She is licensed to practice by the Supreme Court of Texas and is admitted to appear in the Western District of Texas, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas, and in North Carolina.
Her record reflects work across several parts of the legal system. That includes corrections and criminal-defense settings during her time as an intern and early staff member, administrative law exposure through a state board clerkship, bankruptcy court experience as an extern, and county-level legal work as an assistant county lawyer. The mix of government posts and private practice has given her familiarity with courtroom procedure, agency matters and the practical demands of a small practice.
Ellison maintains a solo office under the name Carrie Ellison, Lawyer at Law. She continues to practice in state and federal courts in Texas and holds admission in North Carolina. Her current practice concentrates on matters that draw on her background in county law, bankruptcy proceedings and courtroom work.
