About Carolyn Slauson
Carolyn Slauson Ali built a multidisciplinary academic foundation before she entered the legal profession. She earned an honors B.A. in history with a minor in management from Brigham Young University in 2004. The next year she completed a Master of Science at the University of Oxford, studying forced migration. She returned to the United States for law school and graduated from Stanford Law School in 2011. Those degrees shape how she frames legal questions and how she prepares for complex matters.
Her career has included work at Fenwick & West LLP. At the firm she has been part of teams handling client matters that require careful research and structured legal reasoning. Colleagues describe her as methodical in her approach to casework and detailed in document analysis. She brings the historian’s attention to context to legal problems and the analyst’s habit of tracing causes and effects through evidence.
The Oxford degree in forced migration gave her exposure to public policy and humanitarian issues. Her undergraduate study in history added another layer of context and narrative sense. She has combined those strands with legal training at Stanford to address questions that sit at the intersection of law, policy and institutions. That combination informs how she frames advice and how she manages the factual record in disputes.
Admitted to practice in California, she works in a state with a broad commercial and regulatory landscape. Her legal work benefits from familiarity with both domestic and international perspectives, a result of study abroad and domestic academic work. Peers note she prepares thoroughly for hearings and client meetings, and that she is inclined to lay out options clearly so decision makers can evaluate tradeoffs.
Outside the office, she has maintained ties to academic inquiry through continued reading and occasional participation in seminars and professional programs. She keeps current on developments that affect clients in areas where factual context matters. She currently practices at Fenwick & West LLP in California and handles client matters through that firm.
