About Carol J.
Carol J. Romine studied law at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and earned her J.D. in 1996. She entered the field of family law soon after graduation and has spent her career handling the kinds of domestic matters that most directly affect people’s everyday lives.
Early in her career she became active in the local bar community, joining the Hamilton County Bar Association and the Indiana State Bar Association in 1996. Those memberships have provided regular contact with other family law practitioners and judges across the state. She later expanded professional connections to groups focused on family dispute resolution, joining the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts in 2009 and the Central Indiana Association of Collaborative Professionals in 2011.
Her practice has evolved as alternative dispute resolution techniques have grown in popularity. Romine practices mediation and collaborative law alongside more traditional courtroom work. She handles divorce and child custody matters and appears in negotiations and settlement sessions as often as in contested hearings. Her involvement in collaborative and conciliation organizations reflects an interest in problem-solving approaches that reduce conflict and cost for families.
Colleagues describe her approach as practical. She aims to clarify options and next steps for clients facing family transitions. That includes preparing clients for the financial, parenting and procedural decisions that follow separation. In collaborative matters she participates in multi-professional teams when cases require input from financial specialists or mental health professionals.
Over the years Romine has balanced private practice with ongoing professional education. Memberships in state and national family law associations have kept her connected to developments in custody evaluation, parenting time guidelines and settlement processes. She has maintained those memberships continuously since the mid-1990s and early 2000s, reflecting long-term involvement rather than episodic participation.
She currently operates Romine Family Law Services, LLC, where she continues to manage cases involving divorce, child custody and related family-law issues. Her practice regularly includes mediation and collaborative law as alternatives to litigation.
