About Carmiann S.
Carmiann S. Céspedes earned her law degree from the University of Puerto Rico–Río Piedras and later completed an LL.M. in International Taxation at York University, conferred in 2017. She combines local legal training with an advanced international credential that informs how she approaches cross-border issues. Her academic path reflects an interest in how domestic law intersects with international rules.
After finishing her studies, Céspedes built a practice in Puerto Rico. She is admitted to the Puerto Rico bar and is authorized to appear before the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico. She also holds certification as a notary by the Puerto Rico Supreme Court. Those credentials allowed her to take on matters that touch both state and federal systems, and to serve clients who need filings and sworn documents handled locally.
Her day-to-day work centers on immigration law. She represents individuals in removal defense, asylum matters, family-based petitions, and naturalization cases. She also handles related administrative filings and court appearances in immigration court when cases require litigation. Clients come to her for help navigating procedural hurdles and for counsel on options after deportation orders or denials.
Céspedes is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and participates in its programs and continuing legal education offerings. That association membership keeps her connected to changing regulations and policy shifts that affect immigration practice. She has used those resources to refine courtroom procedures and to stay current on eligibility rules and filing requirements.
In practice she balances litigation tasks with paperwork and client counseling. She prepares briefs, motions, and appeals when matters proceed to a hearing. She also prepares petitions and supporting documentation for family-based immigration and humanitarian relief. Her background in international taxation is occasionally relevant when cases raise cross-border asset or income questions, or when clients’ immigration status intersects with complex financial matters.
Céspedes leads Immigration Lawyer Céspedes Office, where she manages client intake and case strategy. Her office handles matters originating in Puerto Rico and cases that implicate federal immigration authorities. She works directly with clients and coordinates with experts when cases require forensic or financial analysis.
Her practice is based in Puerto Rico, where she represents individuals on immigration and related legal matters. She currently focuses her practice on immigration matters in Puerto Rico and in federal immigration proceedings.
