About Carlos Scott
Carlos Scott Lopez earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University in 1993 and completed his J.D. at Yale Law School in 2005. Those years framed his entrance into law and public service. He moved from a broad liberal arts background into a legal education that prepared him for both litigation and regulatory work.
Early in his post-law school career he took a position that crossed legal practice and international development. In 2006 he served as Director at the Gamelan Council - Asia-Pacific Public Health, Mircofinance, and Development Centre. The role placed him in the intersection of public health policy, microfinance initiatives and development programming in the Asia-Pacific region, a perspective that has informed later work on cross-border and regulatory matters.
Lopez holds admissions in both California and New York. He is a member of the State Bar of New York. He also carries credentials that extend beyond standard bar admission. He is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court and is registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office via the Patent Bar. Those qualifications allow him to handle tax controversies before the Tax Court and undertake patent prosecution and related intellectual property filings.
After his early international development post, he moved into private practice and established his own office. He practices from the Law Offices of C. Scott Lopez. His work mixes tax law and patent-related matters. He represents clients on tax disputes and prepares patent applications. He also counsels clients on matters that sit at the overlap of tax, intellectual property and regulatory compliance, drawing on the combination of courtroom admission and patent registration.
Colleagues and clients have noted his capacity to shift between statutory tax procedures and the technical demands of patent work. He keeps active memberships that reflect his dual-jurisdiction practice. He maintains an office through which he accepts matters in California and New York. He practices tax and patent law at the Law Offices of C. Scott Lopez, advising individuals and businesses in California and New York.
