About Carla M.
Carla M. Casas built a career that moves between private practice and public service. She earned a B.A. in mathematics from Andrews University in 1999 and completed her J.D. at the University of Florida in 2002. Those academic foundations underlie a practice that crosses state lines and legal disciplines.
Her earliest legal work began in private firms. After law school she joined Foley & Lardner LLP as an associate in 2002. That role gave her exposure to complex transactional and regulatory matters. In 2005 she shifted to McGuire Woods, where she continued as an associate and handled litigation and counseling assignments for corporate clients.
Casas moved into government work in 2007 when she took a post at the Office of the Illinois Lawyer General. The following year she joined the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, known as MALDEF, and worked on civil rights matters. That experience placed her on the front lines of policy and litigation affecting immigrant communities and minority rights.
In 2009 she became a trial lawyer at the United States Department of Labor’s Office of the Solicitor. There she litigated employment and labor issues on the federal level. The role required courtroom work and administrative advocacy, and it expanded her experience in federal practice.
After years of split experience across private and public roles, she launched Casas Immigration, Ltd. in 2014. As owner and lawyer she built a practice centered on immigration law. Her background in litigation, civil rights, and federal labor disputes informs her approach to cases, and she draws on years of courtroom and administrative experience.
Casas is admitted to practice in Florida, Georgia, and Illinois. That multi-jurisdictional standing allows her to take cases that involve cross-border client needs and state-federal interactions. She continues to engage in matters that draw on both her litigation skills and her familiarity with administrative processes.
Her career path shows a steady movement from broad legal training to a narrower practice area. She combines the procedural knowledge gained in federal trial work and state government with the casework developed in private firms. She currently practices immigration law at Casas Immigration, Ltd., representing clients on immigration matters.
