About Candice

Candice Komar earned her J.D. at the University of Dayton School of Law in 1983. She began practicing law soon after and has built a long career in family law and alternative dispute resolution in Pennsylvania. Her legal education set the stage for a practice that emphasizes negotiation and problem solving as much as court work.

Early in her career she served as a shareholder at Buchanan Ingersoll, PC in 1990. That period helped shape her approach to complex family matters and taught her the administrative side of running a legal practice. She left that firm before helping to establish a new law firm in 2001, when she became a founding partner and shareholder of Pollock Begg Komar Glasser & Vertz LLC. Over the years she has balanced courtroom experience with out-of-court dispute resolution.

Her training extends beyond the traditional bar curriculum. She holds certifications in collaborative law through the Collaborative Law Association of Southwestern Pennsylvania and in mediation from the Association of Conflict Resolution. She also completed Constellation Therapy training at the Hellinger Learning Institute of Western Pennsylvania. Those credentials inform the range of options she offers clients, from negotiated settlements to facilitated family conversations.

Memberships and professional affiliations are a steady part of her profile. She has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 2011 and a Fellow of the Allegheny County Bar Foundation since 2006. She belongs to multiple family law sections, including the Allegheny County Bar Association, the ACBA Family Law Section, and the Pennsylvania Bar Association Family Law Section; many of those connections date back to 1986. She is also involved with regional groups such as Pittsburgh Professional Women and collaborative organizations at the local and international levels.

Colleagues describe her as pragmatic in the way she evaluates cases. She prepares for litigation, but often steers parties toward mediation or collaborative practices when the circumstances allow. Her constellation therapy training gives her familiarity with family dynamics that can be hard to address in traditional sessions. The result is a practice that offers clients several pathways through divorce, custody, support, and property issues.

She is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and has spent her career working in that jurisdiction. Her caseload includes contested hearings and negotiated resolutions, and she draws on both courtroom skills and conflict-resolution training in her work. Her current practice focuses on family law, mediation, and collaborative law.
