About Candice K.
Candice K. Mendez earned her J.D. from Appalachian School of Law in 2005 after completing a B.A. in criminology at the University of South Florida in 2001. She moved from academic study into practice quickly. Her legal education was grounded in criminal law subjects and courtroom procedure, the foundations she carried into her early work as a lawyer.
She established a solo practice in 2005 under the name Candice K. Mendez, Lawyer at Law. From the start she ran a one-person firm, handling matters in Tennessee courts and managing all aspects of client work and office administration. The choice to operate as a sole proprietor shaped the contours of her practice. It required juggling case strategy, client intake, and the practical demands of running a small office.
Over the years Mendez has concentrated her work in criminal defense. She joined the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 2009 and has maintained that membership since then. Participation in that organization places her in regular contact with other defense lawyers across the state and provides access to continuing legal education focused on trial practice, evidence, and sentencing issues.
She also holds membership in the Tennessee Bar Association, joining in 2008. That affiliation connects her to broader developments within the state bar and to resources on ethics, procedure, and legislative change. Between bar activities and the criminal defense association, she has sustained an active professional profile outside her day-to-day casework.
Mendez’s practice profile reflects the practical realities of solo practice in Tennessee. She oversees both pretrial work and courtroom proceedings. Her office handles client interviews, plea negotiations, and trial preparation. She manages filings and schedules and remains the primary point of contact for clients who need legal representation in criminal matters.
After two decades in practice she continues to operate her solo firm in Tennessee. Her current practice concentrates on criminal defense in state courts.
