About Bruce

Bruce McIver is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 2004. His license is currently in active status. Mr. McIver is the principal attorney at his own firm, McIver Law, located in Santa Barbara, California. He has been practicing law for over 20 years, serving clients throughout the Santa Barbara area and surrounding regions.

Mr. McIver earned his Juris Doctor degree from the Santa Barbara College of Law in 2003, graduating with honors. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Santa Barbara, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Humanities in 1966. He also holds a Master of Arts degree in Shakespeare from the University of Kent, Canterbury, obtained in 1969, and a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of California, Santa Barbara, completed in 1974.

Mr. McIver concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning and probate law. He assists clients with drafting wills, establishing trusts, and navigating the probate process to ensure the seamless distribution of assets to beneficiaries. His practice encompasses all stages of estate planning, including initial consultations, document preparation, and post-death administration. He is also a certified Notary Public in the State of California, providing notarization services for various legal documents.

Throughout his career, Mr. McIver has been admitted to practice before the Superior Court of California for the County of Santa Barbara and the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He has handled numerous cases involving estate planning, trust administration, and probate litigation, representing individuals and families in matters related to the distribution of assets and resolution of disputes. Prior to founding his own firm, he taught English literature at various institutions, including Reed College, Union College, UCLA, UCSB, and the University of Ljubljana, for over 25 years.

Mr. McIver is an active member of the California State Bar Association and has been involved in various community service activities. He has volunteered as a teen court judge for over ten years and has given talks on career goals to junior and senior high school students for the Santa Barbara Partners in Education Program. He has also been invited to give talks at various legal associations, including the Association of Legal Professionals and the Santa Barbara Paralegals Association. He has published over a dozen articles on literature and law in the Santa Barbara Lawyer Magazine. Mr. McIver is fluent in English and has a strong background in literature, allowing him to serve a diverse clientele effectively.
