About Bruce Emerson
Bruce Emerson Methven is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1980. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Methven is the principal attorney at Methven & Associates, a law firm located at 2232 6th Street, Berkeley, California. He has been practicing law for over 45 years, serving clients throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
Mr. Methven earned his Juris Doctor degree from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, where he graduated in 1980. During his time at Boalt Hall, he served as an Associate Editor for the Law Review. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Berkeley, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy in 1974. He was also elected to Phi Beta Kappa, recognizing his academic excellence.
Mr. Methven concentrates his practice in the areas of antitrust law, business law, communications and internet law, entertainment and sports law, and estate planning. He represents individuals and businesses in matters involving business contracts, business dissolution, business finance, business formation, business litigation, franchising, mergers and acquisitions, partnership and shareholder disputes, internet law, media and advertising, telecommunications law, guardianship and conservatorship estate administration, health care directives, trusts, and wills. His practice encompasses all stages of legal proceedings, including litigation, appeals, negotiations, and trials in both state and federal courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. Methven has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Alameda, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to founding his own firm, he worked as an associate at a mid-size litigation firm in Berkeley for five years.
Mr. Methven is an active member of the California State Bar Association. He is also a member of the American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law and the Section of Business Law. He is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to serve the diverse communities of the Bay Area effectively.
