About Britten
Britten Sessions built a career at the intersection of engineering and law. He earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University in 2004. He then turned to law, completing a J.D. in Intellectual Property at Santa Clara University School of Law in 2011. That combination of technical training and legal education informs much of his work.
After law school, Sessions pursued roles that blended practice and academic service. In 2017 he served as Associate Dean of Intellectual Property at Lincoln Law School of San Jose, a position that placed him amid legal education and the institutional side of intellectual property training. The role added an administrative dimension to his resume and exposed him to the curricular and regulatory concerns of IP instruction.
He moved back into private practice the following year. In 2018 Sessions joined Zilka-Kotab PC as a principal. At the firm he focused on patent-related work, advising clients on technical inventions and patent filings. Colleagues describe the work as detail-oriented and heavily technical, reflecting his undergraduate training in chemical engineering.
In 2021 Sessions launched PatentSide, LLC and listed himself as owner. That step marked a shift toward running an independent practice. The move also tightened the connection between his technical background and the legal services he provides. His memberships underscore that balance. He has current membership in the National Association of Patent Practitioners and in the Santa Clara County Bar Association’s High Technology Section since 2013. He served on the executive committee of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society in 2014.
Sessions is admitted to practice in California. Over the years he has handled patent preparation, prosecution and related counseling work for clients in technology and engineering fields. He has combined work in private firms and roles in legal education, and he has maintained professional ties through bar and practitioner associations.
He describes himself as someone who draws on technical training when preparing patent applications and responding to office actions. That practical stance helps when translating complex inventions into patent claims and specifications. He currently leads PatentSide, LLC, where his practice concentrates on patent prosecution and intellectual property counseling.
