About Brian William
Brian William Leahey graduated from Georgetown University with a B.A. in 1990 and earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1994. He completed his legal education in the early 1990s and moved into public service soon after. His academic background placed him among a cohort of lawyers entering Massachusetts practice in the mid-1990s.
Leahey began his career in the Middlesex County District Lawyer’s Office in 1994. That role gave him early courtroom and prosecutorial experience. He opened a solo practice as Brian W. Leahey, Esq. in 1998 and spent time in private practice before joining Gallagher & Cavanaugh LLP in 2001. In 2003 he took on a municipal role as Assistant City Solicitor for the City of Lowell, handling legal matters on behalf of a municipal government and working on issues that often cross between litigation and public policy.
In 2011 he established the Law Office of Brian W. Leahey, P.C. That move formalized his independent practice and reflected a return to managing a law office under his own name. Over the years he has balanced private representation and municipal responsibilities, developing experience on both sides of public and private sector matters.
Leahey has been a member of the Massachusetts State Bar since 1994. He maintains memberships in the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Massachusetts Employment Lawyers Association, the latter since 2012. He has also served as a director of the Greater Lowell Bar Association beginning in 2012, a role that has kept him engaged in the local legal community and in the professional development activities of regional practitioners.
His work has included municipal law matters, advising and representing city government interests, and employment-related disputes reflective of his association memberships. He has handled litigation and advisory matters across those fields and has oscillated between public-sector representation and private-client advocacy during his career.
As of 2026 he operates the Law Office of Brian W. Leahey, P.C., continuing to practice in Massachusetts and maintaining active memberships in state and local bar organizations. His current practice centers on employment and municipal law matters.
