About Brian

Brian Vertz built a foundation in the humanities and business before entering law. He earned a B.A. in English from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1984. He then completed both a J.D. at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business in 1988. The combination of legal training and business education shaped his approach to complex financial aspects of family law.

His early career included a position as a senior associate at Reed Smith in 1995. He moved into firm leadership when he became a partner at Pollock Begg in 2001, a firm now known as Pollock Begg Komar Glasser Vertz & Williams LLC. Over the years he has tried cases, negotiated settlements and advised clients on both the legal and financial elements of marital disputes.

Vertz is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and before the U.S. Supreme Court. He holds professional certifications that align with the technical demands of his work. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers. He is also an Accredited Valuation Analyst through the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, a credential that informs his handling of valuation and asset division questions.

Professional associations have played a large role in his career. Since 1992 he has been active in both the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Allegheny County Bar Association, working in family law sections. At the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers he has taken on chapter leadership responsibilities; since 2020 he has held chapter roles including treasurer and chapter president. He served as Committee Chair for the AAML Chapter Leaders from 2019 to 2021. He also serves on the AAML Foundation board as secretary, a role he began in 2019.

His civic and educational activities extend beyond bar groups. He served on the board of trustees for the Crafton Public Library from 2010 to 2017. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute Family Law Advisory Committee from 2010 to 2014. Earlier, he held an education leadership post in Mellon Toastmasters from 2007 to 2014.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in handling financial documentation and practical in courtroom settings. He has handled matters where valuations, business interests and retirement assets were central to settlement talks and litigation. He remains based at Pollock Begg Komar Glasser Vertz & Williams LLC and continues to work on family law cases involving complex financial and matrimonial issues.

He currently practices family law at Pollock Begg Komar Glasser Vertz & Williams LLC, handling matrimonial matters and related financial litigation.
