About Brian

Brian D. Shonk is a partner at Dagger, Johnston, Miller, Ogilvie & Hampson, LLP, commonly known as Dagger Law, with offices located in Lancaster and Canal Winchester, Ohio. With over 30 years of legal experience, Mr. Shonk specializes in business law, estate planning, probate, collections, and elder law. His extensive knowledge allows him to effectively represent both businesses and individuals in many legal matters. In 1986, Mr. Shonk earned his Juris Doctor magna cum laude from Boston College Law School.

Prior to that, he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts from Case Western Reserve University in 1983. This strong educational background laid the foundation for his successful legal career. At Dagger Law, he handles various legal issues, including general business law, corporate matters, limited liability company law, and the sales and acquisitions of businesses. Additionally, he is experienced in business succession planning, estate planning—encompassing wills, trusts, and powers of attorney—and trust administration, as well as probate estate administration. Mr. Shonk is also dedicated to sharing his expertise with others. He has presented continuing legal education seminars on topics such as bankruptcy and mechanic’s lien issues to trade organizations and attorney groups.

His contributions to the legal field extend to writing, as his articles on labor law have been featured in various law journals, showcasing his commitment to legal scholarship and education. Active in his community, Mr. Shonk serves on the boards of directors for several organizations in Fairfield County. These include the Lancaster-Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, the Fisher Catholic Foundation, and the Fairfield Center for Disabilities and Cerebral Palsy. He also participates in the Fairfield County Hospice’s Ethics Committee and contributes to the United Way of Fairfield County. His community involvement reflects his dedication to improving the lives of those around him. As a member of the Fairfield County Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, and the Columbus Bar Association, Mr.

Shonk maintains strong professional ties within the legal community. In 2016, he was honored in Columbus Business First’s "People to Know" edition, recognizing his influence and contributions to the field. Licensed to practice law in both Ohio and Massachusetts, he is a member in good standing of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Massachusetts Bar Association.
