About Brian

Brian Murphy studied at the College of the Holy Cross, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts, and completed his legal education at Columbia Law School with a J.D. He entered the legal profession after law school and built a practice centered in Massachusetts. His academic background includes a combination of liberal arts and Columbia’s law curriculum, which set the stage for courtroom and appellate work.

He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He has held membership in the Massachusetts State Bar since 2006 and remains an active member. Over the years he has worked on matters that required filings and appearances in both state and federal tribunals, bringing cases through procedural stages and, when necessary, to the appellate level.

Murphy’s professional routine blends written advocacy and oral argument. He prepares and files briefs, argues motions, and manages case strategy in litigated matters. He appears in trial courts and in appellate proceedings when issues require review beyond the trial level. Colleagues describe him as methodical; clients rely on clear explanations about procedural steps and realistic assessments of risk.

His work has required attention to procedural detail and an ability to shape legal questions for higher courts. In the appellate context he focuses on framing issues for review, drafting appellate briefs, and presenting oral argument where permitted. In trial settings he manages discovery, motions practice, and evidentiary questions that can affect later review.

Murphy keeps his practice based in Massachusetts and handles litigation that intersects state and federal law. He maintains active admissions that allow him to pursue appeals in the First Circuit when cases warrant that level of review. He currently focuses his practice on state and federal litigation and appellate matters.
