About Brian
Brian Lahti trained first as an economist and then as a lawyer. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Westminster College in 2008. He then enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and received his J.D. in 2011. Those academic years gave him grounding in economic reasoning and in-law classroom training that he carried into practice.
After law school Lahti entered private practice. He has practiced at Fenwick & West LLP. At the firm he has worked on matters that require careful legal analysis, clear drafting and practical problem solving. Colleagues describe his approach as methodical; he breaks complex issues into manageable parts and presses for answers that serve client needs.
Lahti’s economic background shapes how he frames legal questions. He often treats disputes and transactions as problems that hinge on incentives, costs and outcomes. That perspective informs how he evaluates risk and frames advice. It also influences how he approaches negotiations and document drafting; the aim is to make obligations clear and predictable.
He gained legal training at a law school known for its rigorous curriculum and then applied that training in the day-to-day work of a law firm. Over time he has developed an aptitude for translating technical concepts into plain language. Clients and colleagues say that clarity in written work and in oral explanation is one of his consistent strengths. He also places a premium on preparing thoroughly before court appearances or client meetings.
Outside the written file and the conference room, Lahti has been involved in mentoring younger lawyers at his firm. He spends time reviewing drafts and walking new associates through the practical steps of building a legal argument. That hands-on guidance reflects a preference for teaching through example rather than abstract instruction.
He maintains ties to his alma mater communities and keeps current on developments that intersect law and markets. His practice is based at Fenwick & West LLP, where he continues to represent clients and provide legal counsel on matters arising in the course of business affairs.
