Brian K. McHugh completed a B.A. in sociology at Colorado State University in 1984 and earned his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1987. His academic path combined social science and law, a pairing that informed his early work in the public sector. Fresh out of law school, McHugh joined the Office of the District Lawyer for the 18th Judicial District. He served as a legal intern, then as a deputy, and later as chief deputy district lawyer.
