About Brian Joseph

Brian Joseph Headley earned his law degree from West Virginia University College of Law in 2004. He completed his legal education in a program known for its emphasis on practice-ready skills. After graduation he set out to build a multi-jurisdictional practice, taking on the procedural and strategic differences that come with practicing across state lines.

He has been admitted to practice in Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania and South Carolina. That list of admissions has shaped a career that spans trials, appeals and transactional matters. He learned early that managing cases across several state bars requires attention to detail and careful coordination. Over time he added memberships in various professional organizations, beginning in 2004 and adding further affiliations in 2005, 2007, 2011, 2019 and 2021. Those memberships reflect steady engagement with the bar and with peers in his fields of practice.

Headley has worked in different courtrooms and settings. He has handled matters that required both courtroom advocacy and written appellate work. He has also been involved in negotiations and closings where state-specific rules made a difference. The multi-state admissions have allowed him to advise clients whose issues cross borders, and to collaborate with local counsel when specialized state knowledge was required.

Colleagues describe him as methodical and direct in the way he prepares a case. He keeps the mechanics of litigation visible and practical. That approach extends to legal writing, where clarity matters to judges and opposing counsel alike. He is comfortable moving between advocacy at trial and the more deliberate pace of appellate briefing.

He practices from Headley Ballard LLC. His day-to-day work combines client counseling, case management and courtroom appearances. He balances litigation demands with the scheduling and regulatory hurdles that come with multi-state practice. That combination shapes his view of what clients need: steady handling of procedural steps, clear explanation of options, and an eye for when to press a matter and when to resolve it.

Today he continues to serve clients through Headley Ballard LLC. His practice concentrates on civil litigation, appeals and transactional matters across the states where he is admitted.
